Transport Canada reviewing TDG Act
OTTAWA, (Feb. 3, 2004) — Transport Canada will resume a review of the Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act (1992).
The TDG Act’s application was originally scheduled for review in 2002 — 10 years after it was first passed — but was delayed due to strict security issues resulting from the events of Sept. 11.
When completed, the review — which will cover all aspects of the Act — may result in modifications to the legislation. The public consultation process is already underway and will be will be done in nine steps, including: defining TDG issues, inviting discussion, seeking expert advice, and make decisions on proposals.
Transport Canada is inviting any interested persons to send comments describing concerns, and proposed solutions to the Act. For additional information on the nine-step consultation process go to www.tc.gc.ca/tdg/consult/actreview/menu.htm.
