Transport companies crack elite 50 Best Managed Platinum Club list

TORONTO — The MSM Group of Companies, along with four other transport carriers, has yet again been named a Platinum Club Member of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies.

This is the third consecutive year MSM has been named to the prestigious list.

Other transportation firms making the Platinum Club yet again are the Wheels Group, Bison Transport, Quik X Transportation, and the Yanke Group of Companies.

The Platinum Club recognizes Canadian owned and managed companies that have been named one of the country’s 50 Best Managed Companies for at least six straight years. The national awards program is sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC Commercial Banking, National Post, and the Queen’s School of Business.

“The achievements of these companies are truly remarkable by any standard,” said John Hughes, Partner, Private Company Services group with Deloitte and National Leader of the Best Managed program. “Sustaining business growth and profitability over a long period of time is extremely challenging. These dynamic companies are among the select few able to successfully make the transition from small entrepreneurial operations to multi-million dollar, multi-functional corporations.”

Attributes of Platinum Club members include the ability to anticipate their customers’ future needs, develop the right set of products and services at the right time, successfully manage growth over time, expand operations nationally and internationally, and attract and retain the right talent.

These companies also continue to demonstrate an entrepreneurial agility, responding nimbly to shifting opportunities and market demands.

“Some our greatest business management challenges have occurred during the past three years as we transport goods across the border in a post-9/11 environment,” said Mike McCarron, MSM’s managing partner. “During that time, we’ve grown and solidified our commitment to moving freight efficiently, safely, and securely. Being named to the Platinum Club for the third consecutive year is a testament to our employees, suppliers, and customers.”

The 2005 Best Managed winners will be announced on February 3, 2006.
