Truck cops launch S. Ontario truck blitz today

PEEL, Ont. — Peel regional police outside of Toronto are launching a truck safety enforcement blitz, starting today, Tues. Oct. 10, 2006.

The blitz, part of Operation Safe Driver, is a joint effort led by Peel Regional Police and the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance.

About additional 50 officers will be on duty, targeting commercial vehicles. Trucks will be randomly selected for qualified CVSA inspectors, who will check out items like brakes, tires, steering components, load securement, and driver qualifications.

Heavy truck traffic and unsafe vehicles have been identified by Peel residents as being specific issues of concern.
