Truck cops to truckers: ‘We appreciate you’
WHITECOURT, Alta. — If you think that roadside truck inspectors are just out to get you, consider this:
Truckers passing through the weigh scales north of Whitecourt, Alta. recently were greeted with an "appreciation" barbeque.
The truck cops along with the Alberta Motor Transport Association organized the event, they say, to show truckers how important their role is.
"That’s what it’s all about. It’s a driver appreciation day just as a thanks to the driver’s for all the hard work they do on the road day in and day out," the AMTA’s Stan Vickers told the Whitecourt Star, which covered the event.
He said people in Canada often don’t think about how their goods got to them. "It comes by truck and I think people forget.
Trucker Tom Mankowski said he’d never been offered barbecue while at a weigh scale before. "This is excellent."
Sure beats a slack adjustment inspection.
