Truck dealer-facility honored by Ontario government

TORONTO — As part of its plan to strengthen the education and skills of Ontarians, the provincial government has recognizing four employers for their commitment to training apprentices and promoting careers in the skilled trades, including commercial vehicle maintenance facility and Mack dealer 401 Trucksource of Maidstone, Ont.

“We’re on the side of hard working Ontario families who want their children to find opportunity. That’s why we’re honoring employers who are showing leadership in training their employees and encouraging more young people, women and new Canadians to pursue careers in the skilled trades,” said Chris Bentley, Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities. announced today.

401 Trucksource Inc. has participated in the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) for 25 years, offered work placements for participants in the Pre-Apprenticeship Training program and Job Connect, and hired youth through the Apprenticeship Scholarship and Employer Signing Bonus
initiative.

The company employs 60 people, eight of whom are apprentices.

401 Trucksource is a member of the Windsor Chamber of Commerce, the Ontario Trucking Association, Canadian Transportation Equipment Association, and the local industry committee and advisory truck dealerships group. The company has received the Canadian Mack Dealer Award five times since 1997.

In 2004, a technician employed by 401 Trucksource was awarded the Ontario Chevron Diesel Technician Award while another won the same award at the national level. The company encourages its technicians to become master technicians for Mack, Volvo and GMC by attending training programs.

401 Truck Source also helped create the truck and coach technician Pre-Apprenticeship Training program delivered by St. Clair College.
