Truck group rolls out tanker safety vid

WASHINGTON — The American Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has just released an extremely engaging and helpful 10-minute video about how to avoid cargo-tank rollovers.

You can watch it here.

Or you can go to the FMCSA website and order a DVD.

But check it out. Take it to heart. Share it with colleagues and friends.

You might save a life.

Produced in collaboration with the Department of Transportation, the video features several experienced tanker drivers talking about how rollovers happen and what you can do to avoid them.

"Although rollovers are rare, we recognize that they can be serious, and this video reaches out to truck drivers in an effort to reduce those incidents," says John Conley, National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) president. "This outreach video is part of our proactive commitment to work with the government or anyone else in improving truck safety and minimizing the risk of such incidents."
This video is the latest in a series of actions NTTC has taken to improve safety in the tank truck sector of the industry, according to Conley.

For more than three years, NTTC has convened rollover prevention summits and reached out to drivers with posters and other publicity in an effort to raise safety awareness.

The video comes as the National Transportation Board convenes this week to discuss the introduction of a rule requiring stability control systems on trucks, particularly tankers.
