Truck sales slump in May
COLUMBUS, IND – – There were fewer class-8 trucks ordered in May than in April, but it should come as no surprise.
That’s the word from ACT Research Co., the Indiana-based transportation research firm.
In a statement released last week, ACT says only 23,000 units were ordered in May, which falls “well below” April’s overheated intake.
However, it’s still a full 77% more than May, 2010.
So ACT is predicting further growth in the industry.
Despite falling nearly 40% from April, May was nevertheless the eighth consecutive month of strong Class 8 order activity.
“It is worth nothing April’s level of order intake was unsustainable, so the pullback in May’s order volume was anticipated,” according to Kenny Vieth, president and senior analyst at ACT.
