Truck size and weight talks begin in New Brunswick

FREDERICTON (Feb. 7, 2000) — Transport regulators in New Brunswick will meet with shippers and trucking companies this week to gauge reaction to a proposed policy on vehicle sizes and weights throughout Atlantic Canada.

Talks will focus on a discussion paper titled “Establishing Uniform Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Regulations within Atlantic Canada,” which presents a preliminary framework and proposal for establishing uniform vehicle weights and dimension regulations and policies within Atlantic Canada.

A copy of the discussion paper is available on the web at www.tac-atc.ca/programs/rdc/trucking. The proposal has not been endorsed by any of the governments of the Atlantic Provinces.

The sessions are being led by John Pearson, secretary of the Transportation Association of CanadaÕs Task Force on Vehicle Weights and Dimensions Policy.

* Feb. 11, 2000, in Campbellton at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre (2nd Floor conference room), 44 Salmon Blvd.
* Feb. 12, 2000, in Edmundston at Hotel Howard Johnson Plaza (Madawaska Room), 100 Rice St.

Sessions have already been held in Prince Edward Island, while those in Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador will be held at a later date. In Nova Scotia, sessions have tentatively been set for Feb. 14 in Port Hawkesbury, Feb. 15 in Truro, Feb. 16 in Halifax/Dartmouth and Feb. 17 in Yarmouth (locations and times have yet to be determined).
