Trucker hate blamed for driver beating?
KAMLOOPS, B.C. – Trucker Alex Fraser was almost killed for being a good Samaritan.
The 67-year-old owner-op says he was viciously beaten and left for dead on the side of the Yellowhead Highway near Blue River, B.C. after he stopped his truck to help what appeared to be two men standing next to a stranded car on the side of the road.
According to the Vancouver Sun, Fraser got out to assist the men.
He says that when he walked towards them he heard someone shout "you truckers are all alike!" and was hit on the back of the head and knocked out by what he believes was a third attacker.
He says that when he woke up, he was covered in blood and the men were gone. He says he blacked out several more times while staggering to get to his truck.
Finally, he drove 34 km to a truckstop in Blue River. He says he flopped out of the truck and people nearby came to his aid and called police.
Fraser was rushed to hospital where he underwent reconstructive surgery to repair a damaged eye socket and three broken bones in his cheek.
He told The Sun his hauling days are over as a result of the attack.
The RCMP are investigating.
