Trucker stuck between bridges with Irene

CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Me. — Ten feet was all there was between truck driver Yannick Livernoche’s cab and a crumbling bridge last weekend.

According to the Kennebec Journal, Livernoche was headed north out of Maine on route to Quebec last Sunday as tropical storm Irene was moving through.

Flood waters on the road north of a bridge forced him to shift his rig into reverse and backup over the bridge.

Ten feet onto the south side of the bridge, the father of two watched the bridge collapse.

After taking time to settle his nerves, Livernoche headed south only to watch another bridge crumble into a brook.

With only a few dirt roads unfit for commercial trucks, Livernoche waited out the storm in his cab.

He said he planned to get a ride home to Weedon, Que., from another truck driver at his company.

His truck will stay on the road until the Maine Department of Transportation figures out a solution, the article said.
