Trucking still one of most injury prone Manitoba jobs
WINNIPEG — The Manitoba’s Workers Compensation Board reports a 1.8 percent increase this year through to July.
According too the Winnipeg Free Press, the insurer handled 9,902 time-loss claims, 179 more than the same period last year. There were also 17 workplace deaths so far in 2008.
Last year, there were total 30 deaths, nearly double the figure from 2006.
A spokesman said the province’s growing economy might be behind an increase in the number of workers being injured on the job.
Construction, trucking and agriculture make up the bulk of the workplace deaths, according to the MWCB.
