Ultramar raises nearly 400K for needy kids
MONTREAL — The Ultramar Foundation has distributed $363,000 to some 60 children’s charitable organizations in communities where the company operates.
“We created the Ultramar Foundation for the purposes of helping charitable organizations, as well as other organizations that are dedicated to the well being of individuals and the development of the community,” stated President Jean Bernier.
In 2006 Ultramar’s annual golf tournament raised $300,000. An additional $63,000 was collected during Valero’s Texas Open and Benefit for Children Golf Classic, held last September in Texas.
Dedicated to improving the lives of children, the community organizations (the list of which is attached) who have received the donations offer a wide range of services, from safe shelters for abused children, the distribution of breakfasts, warm meals and school supplies to disadvantaged children, support for prenatal health care, to the purchase of medical equipment for hospitals providing care for sick or handicapped children.
“Thanks to our employees’ involvement and generous support from our suppliers and business partners, we are able to come to the assistance of hundreds of disadvantaged children in Eastern Canada, said Bernier. We are very proud to support so many worthy causes. In addition, since the beneficiaries were chosen by our employees, these donations have a very special significance.”
Based in Montreal, Ultramar isa diesel fuel supplier that owns and operates a refinery in Quebec with production capacity of 215,000 barrels of oil per day.
