U.S. Customs arrests man trying to sell counterfeit Cat engine software and parts

COLUMBIA, S.C. (June 12, 2002) — The U.S. Customs Service has arrested an Indian man who tried to sell counterfeit copies of Caterpillar engine software and parts to undercover agents in Columbia, S.C.

The man is an executive of Aarkay Engineering Corp. of Calcutta. The software, used by dealers and customers, includes a digital library of more than 15,000 books and periodicals, updates on more than one million Caterpillar parts, and two million graphics.

Aarkay representatives are also accused of trying to package and sell counterfeit Caterpillar engine parts elsewhere in the United States.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Carolina, will be prosecuting the case, which involves trademark and copyright infringement.
