U.S. Customs, Peace Bridge Authority expand PAPS

BUFFALO, N.Y. (Dec. 4, 2000) — The Peace Bridge Authority has expanded its Pre-Arrival Processing System (PAPS) program to include several major ports of entry along the U.S.-Canada border.

Previously only available at Lewiston/Niagara Falls and Buffalo, N.Y., PAPS is now in operation at Highgate Springs, Vt.; Champlain, N.Y.; Alexandria Bay, N.Y.; Detroit; Port Huron, Mich.; and Blaine, Wash.

Similar to the PARS (Pre-Arrival Review System) program for Canadian import, PAPS uses bar coded invoices to speed up customs clearance for freight entering the United States. At the Peace Bridge crossing, the number of shipments not requiring secondary inspection by U.S. Customs jumped from 64% to 82% as a result of PAPS.

Contact U.S. Customs at the Commercial Warehouse at 716/551-3520, ext. 131 for more information about PAPS.
