U.S. DOT extends comment period on drug testing

WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 20, 2001) — In response to requests from the maritime industry, the U.S. Dept. of Transportation said it would extend the comment period for a final rule on workplace drug and alcohol until July 16.

The DOT said the maritime industry had questions about section 40 CFR 40.25, which would allow medical review officers to provide details about a worker’s test results to third-party employers. The DOT said it would extend the period through July 16 in order to hear comments on Sec. 40.25 only.

Comments should be sent to Docket Clerk, Attn: Docket No. OST-99-6578, Dept. of Transportation, 400 7th St., S.W., Room PL401, Washington, DC, 20590. If you want your comments to be acknowledged, enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard with their comments.
