U.S. DOT issues terrorist warning to fuel haulers, depots
WASHINGTON (May 29, 2002) — The U.S. Dept. of Transportation issued an advisory relating to possible targeting of fuel trucks and petroleum transfer facilities by terrorists.
The alert was made after the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it learned about a possible threat during interviews of detained terrorist suspects.
Transport officials warned carriers of hazardous materials to be especially vigilant during times when hazardous material movements, especially involving fuel and petroleum products, are stopped, even for a short period.
Reports of suspicious activities should be made to a local FBI office, or via 911 if there is an observed activity involving an immediate threat.
A list of field offices, along with instructions about how to report suspicious activity, is available online at www.fbi.gov/contact/fo/fo.htm
