U.S. government to hear from public on $1-billion deal between EPA and engine-makers
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The federal government is taking comments from the public through Dec. 3 on the agreement reached last month between engine manufacturers, the federal Environmental Protection Agency, and the U.S. Justice Department.
The consent decree, announced last month, has engine makers paying $1 billion US in fines, funding for environmental projects, and engine improvements. The agreement settled EPA allegations that engine-makers programmed their engines to fool emissions tests.
Comments should be addressed to the Assistant Attorney General of the Environment and Natural Resources Division, Department of Justice, Washington, D.C. 20530.
The notice of the consent decrees published in the Federal Register Nov. 3 (a separate decree for each engine manufacturer) gave a brief summary of the agreements.
