US truck-trade imports down
WASHINGTON — Trade between the United States, Canada and Mexico rose 4.5 percent in August from the same month last year, though both truck and rail imports declined.
According to the Department of Transportation, NAFTA trade rose to $72.3 billion, but imports the U.S. — mainly southbound freight from Canada — fell 7.1 percent year-over-year to $22.9 billion, while exports rose 2.3 percent to $23.9 billion.
Rail imports dipped 1.6 percent to $8.3 billion, while exports jumped 30.5 percent to $4.8 billion, the DOT said.
