Vancouver’s Westport teams up with Ford

VANCOUVER, B.C. (June 28, 2001) — After working out a joint venture with Cummins to produce three lines of alternative fuel, spark-ignited engines earlier this year, Vancouver, B.C.-based Westport Innovations has signed an agreement with Ford to develop Westport’s low-emissions natural gas fuel system for light-duty diesel engines.

The agreement continues ongoing talks between Ford and Westport to develop a natural gas engine derived from a production diesel engine for light duty vehicle.

According to Westport, its High Pressure Direct Injection technology enables diesel engines to retain power and fuel efficiency while reducing the output of unwanted emissions such as nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and carbon dioxide.
