Vitran Express secures multi-year freight deals

TORONTO (August 9, 2001) — Vitran Express, the less-than-truckload subsidiary of Toronto-based Vitran Corp., announced separate multi-year distribution contracts with Avery Dennison Corp. and Pearson plc’s (PSO) Pearson Education unit.

Avery Dennison produces adhesive labels. Pearson is a publishing company. Financial terms of the agreements were not disclosed.

The contracts were secured following the purchase of 1000 pup trailers from Indiana-based Wabash National, the company said. The trailer purchase represents Vitran’s largest trailer acquisition in corporate history.

Vitran Express operates predominately in the central United States.
