Volunteers needed for AMTA No-Zone campaign

CALGARY, Alta. — The Alberta Motor Transport Association (AMTA) is looking for volunteers to help with its No-Zone safety campaign.

The association is launching a campaign aimed at education the public about how to safely share the road with big rigs. It will be demonstrating the blind spots of a tractor-trailer at several Wal-Marts this summer in Calgary, Edmonton, Lethbridge and Red Deer.

"This safety campaign will show people what it’s really like to sit inside a semi-trailer and get a better idea of how big the blind spots are around the truck," the association says.

There will also be a barbecue at each of the events and the RCMP rollover simulator will be on-hand. Volunteers from the trucking industry are needed at each event to help educate the public about blind spots.

So far, events are scheduled for: June 26 Taylor Drive Wal-Mart 2010 – 50 Avenue Red Deer 9am-4pm; TBD South Edmonton Common Corner of Calgary Trail & 23 Ave. Edmonton 9am-4pm; TBD Edmonton N.E. Wal-Mart 13703 – 40 Street N.W. Edmonton 9am-4pm; July 3 Marlborough Wal-Mart 3835 Memorial Drive N.E. Calgary 9am-4pm; July 8 Calgary Road King 4949 Barlow Trail S.E. Calgary 10am-1pm; July 31 Macleod Trail Wal-Mart 9650 Macleod Trail S.W. Calgary 9am-4pm; and August 14 Lethbridge Wal-Mart 3700 Mayor McGrath Drive South Lethbridge 9am-4pm.
