Volvo issues voluntary recall
GREENSBORO, N.C. (April 2, 2001) — Volvo Trucks North America voluntarily recalled 1,577 VN-series tractors made between Nov, 22, 1997, and Aug. 28, 1999, because their front-axle certification labels don’t comply with National Highway Traffic Safety Administration standards.
Volvo said the action relates to the weight rating on the front axle of the vehicle when a trailer isn’t present. It said the problem was caused by incorrect tire rating information used to calculate the weight ratings. Volvo dealers will replace the weight certification label with a correct one; replace front axle tires, rims or tie rod tubes; or replace and relocate fuel tanks.
Volvo said the labeling issue is not related to the complaint filed by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association. OOIDA said 42 of its members have experienced performance problems related to the front end of their VN tractors.
