Volvo lays off 650 at US truck plant
DUBLIN, Va. — Volvo Trucks North America has announced permanent layoffs of 650 workers at its truck assembly plant in Dublin, Va.
The truckmaker says it will lay off 40 percent of the plant’s remaining workforce by the end of April.
Not surprisingly, the layoffs are prompted by the slumping market for heavy trucks.
The news follows a series of layoff notices by other truckmakers, including Navistar International’s cuts in Chatham, Ont.
Also, Daimler Trucks will close its Sterling plant in St. Thomas in March.
