Volvo to supply engines for Internationals

WARRENVILLE, Ill. (June 4, 2001) — Navistar International Corp. said it is negotiating a long-term agreement with AB Volvo of Sweden to supply 12-litre to 13-litre engines for its International class-8 trucks.

No financial details were disclosed.

“In the face of industry consolidation and concerns regarding future emissions standards and timing, we want to ensure that International customers and dealers have access to a 12- to 13-litre class-8 engine,” the company said in a press release.

The statement said Navistar would continue to offer diesel engines from other suppliers.

Volvo said the engines will initially be produced in Sweden. At a later stage, however, Volvo intends to produce the engines in North America.

Navistar is the parent company of International Truck and Engine Corp., a producer of trucks and mid-range diesel under the International brand.
