Waving the green flag in the West: Big Rig Racing series kicks off May 24

CALGARY (May 19, 2003) — Folks in the West will get another taste of big-bore diesels at speed.

The North American Big Rig Racing (NABRR) series kicks off May 24 at the Chaparral Speedway in Boise, Idaho. The next event is at Race City Speedway in Calgary on June 11.

The chairman of the series is Ron Singer, owner of Ron Singer Truck Lines in Calgary. He runs two trucks in his Team Heavy Metal Motor Sports, both Macks, one of which captured the championship last season for the second time in the past three years.

Singer is keen to build the series, which was launched in 1989, seeing it as positive public relations for the trucking industry at large. He says organizers have made changes in the off-season to make the series more fun for the fans, as if that were possible, and safer as well. “I hope to help move our series to a higher level,” Singer said.

One of the unique aspects of the series is that trucks start the race in reverse order. If they qualify first, they’ll start last and have to move through the pack. The field is usually between 15 and 20 trucks strong. For details, contact Singer at 403/531-0950.
