Webb Wheel Puts the Spin On a Self-Cleaning Drum
Webb Wheel Products has created what it says is the industry’s first self-cleaning brake drum. The Webb BrakeTurbines System (BTS) uses turbines to generate a cooling, cleaning stream of air and direct it between the drum and friction material. The turbines, made by Lynnfin Truck Technologies, are positioned behind vents in the drum where they can blow out hot air, dust, and other debris. The turbines decrease the surface temperature of the brake friction material up to 30 per cent, Webb says. This decrease, when combined with the expulsion of gases from the drum chamber, is enough to boost brake torque by up to
18 per cent.
The Webb BTS brake drum is available in 7-, 8-, and 8-5/8-inch sizes.
