Website reports on dock conditions
ARLINGTON, Va. (Aug. 30, 1999) — A new service documents recent conditions at shipping and receiving docks in an effort to reduce truckers’ waiting time.
The program by CompuNet Credit Services and the Truckload Carriers Association is intended to address dock management problems that cost the trucking industry an estimated $1.5 billion US a year.
CompuNet has created Dock Report, a website that allows carriers to research and report conditions at shipping and receiving docks. The information includes wait time, additional charges such as gate fees and lumper fees, and the efficiency of paperwork handling.
Information also will be gathered on the availability of facilities for drivers, and services expected from the driver, including loading, unloading, sorting and segregating.
Access to the site is free through the end of the year.
