Weekly rail-carloading report shows intermodal freight up 24% over previous year:
OTTAWA (Feb. 7, 2000) — Intermodal traffic tonnage during the seven-day period ending Jan. 21 totalledÊ380Ê000Êtonnes, aÊ23.9% increase from the same period inÊ1999, according to a report released today by Statistics Canada. The year-to-date figures increasedÊ21.3%.
Non-intermodal traffic loaded rose 1.4% toÊ4.4Êmillion tonnes over the same period inÊ1999, while the number of cars loaded increasedÊ2.9%.
Total rail traffic increasedÊ2.9% during the week, bringing the year-to-date total toÊ13.5Êmillion tonnes, an increase ofÊ9.4% from the previous year.
