Weights and dimensions agreement anticipated

Ministry of Transportation officials in Ontario and Quebec indicated that an agreement has been reached where common weights and dimensions will be implemented in both provinces.

The agreement is subject to cabinet and legislative approval, but will likely be implemented January 1, 2001. An official announcement is expected next month.

The Private Motor Truck Council of Canada was on hand for the negotiations and announced that several of their recommendations have been incorporated in the new rules. A PMTC spokesperson was unavailable for comment.
Quebec is expected to handle the 34K kg. Quad with an annual permit priced at about $150 per unit.
