Western Star rolls out Constellation Series off-roader

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 27, 2000) — Western Star introduced its largest custom-built truck and the first Constellation Series model designed for heavy-duty, off-road, and severe-service applications.

The 6964SX replaces the company’s Heritage Series models. The cab, radiator, and engine have been raised in relation to the frame rails by more than three inches, allowing the frame rails to be extended intact under the radiator. The cab has been moved back so the engine is entirely in front of the firewall.

These modifications reduce the chances for damage to critical components and mprove the serviceability of the engine and under-hood systems, the company said. Future options include a 6X6 model and a butterfly hood.

A show model had a 600-horsepower Cummins Signature Series engine, Eaton RTLO 20918B transmission with an AT1202 mechanical shift auxiliary transmission, Meritor SPRC-1927 Planetary 90-inch track rear axle, and Michelin XMP 14.00R25 tires on OMR EarthMover rims.
