Wife of murdered trucker appeals to industry
BROCKVILLE, Ont. — Nicole Woods is reaching out to the trucking industry to help find out what led to her trucker husband’s death in last month.
Her husband Donny as found shot to death in his cab parked at a Pickering, Ont., parking lot. His load of about 65,000 worth of meat he was hauling to Montreal was also stolen.
Nicole Woods is sending flyers to about 100 trucking companies as well as truckstops in Canada and the U.S. hoping anyone might have information about the days leading up to his death, CBC reports.
Transport truck thefts and even hijackings are not uncommon, but police think this might be the first time in Canada that a trucker has been killed for his load.
Private detective Mark McDougall, who has investigated stolen cargo involving transport trucks for the past decade, said the killing is puzzling since Woods was transporting meat.
“I was shocked when I first heard about it,” McDougall said. “To think somebody lost their life for that really doesn’t make a lot of sense,” he told CBC, adding truck-jackers usually go after high-end, easily-movable electronics.
