Winter coats
Ice and grime from winter roads are harsh enough on brake components, but the new ice-inhibiting compounds being spread on highways can cause an oxide layer to form on the brake shoe table that lifts and cracks the lining. It’s a phenomenon known as rust jacking, and it’s bad news.
To resist this type of corrosion, the commercial vehicle systems group at Dana has reformulated the lining on its brake products. The result, called Spicer Silver Supreme, has shown a 75-per-cent improvement in lining life, the company says. It’s now standard on all brake sizes, including Dana’s popular 12.25-inch low-pro brakes.
Also standard: Dana E-coats the shoes on single anchor pin tractor and trailer brakes and double anchor pin trailer brakes. More information is available at www.roadranger.com, or by calling 1-800/826-4357.
