Wolverine maintenance director takes home CFMS award

TORONTO (May 3, 2001) — Wolverine Freight Systems maintenance director Mike Sills closed the 38th annual Canadian Fleet Maintenance Seminar yesterday by accepting the 2001 Volvo Fleet Maintenance Manager of the Year award.

Sills, who said he was extremely grateful as he accepted applause from colleagues, is responsible for Wolverine’s preventive maintenance program and vehicle spec’ing. Wolverine was described as having one of the best fleet averages for fuel economy in the country.

For winning the award, the 36-year industry veteran will be presented with a 14-karat gold ring and an all-expenses-paid trip to Sweden.

Wolverine, a less-than-truckload carrier based in Windsor, Ont., operates 180 tractors and 475 trailers. It was tied for 62nd on the annual Today’s Trucking Top 100, which ranks Canada’s largest for-hire trucking operations by fleet size.
