Yellow promises shorter transit times

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (March 23) — Yellow Freight System plans to cut transit times from three to two days on 59,000 lanes, more than half of its most heavily traveled routes in North America. The initiative begins April 2.

The less-than-truckload specialist said the faster time would not come at the expense of service. It announced Operation EXCELeration, “built on the foundation of system-wide process improvements that we have implemented over the past three years,” said Yellow Freight System president Bill Zollars. “It takes our service to the best-in-class category throughout North America.”

Zollars said these improvements include the July 1998 introduction of Exact Express, a “100% satisfaction guaranteed” expedited, time-definite air and ground delivery service for shipments over 70 pounds.
