Yellow Roadway changes name to reflect international ops
NEW YORK – The world’s largest trucking company, Yellow Roadway Corp. plans to change its name to YRC Worldwide Inc., according to the Wall Street Journal.
Citing the LTL giant’s CEO, the Journal reported that the company would also change its stock symbol on the Nasdaq to YRCW.
The name change comes amid plans to start operating trucks and logistics facilities in China later this year.
Last year, Yellow Roadway Corp. paid $45 million for JHJ International Transportation Co. — the second-largest air freight forwarding company in China.
The company plans to start things off in China with less than 100 trucks, working with four or five Chinese firms that move goods to Shanghai for eventual U.S. shipment.
Yellow swallowed up a huge slice of the North American LTL market in 2003, when it acquired number two LTL carrier Roadway in a landmark deal.
