Yellow-Roadway taps new transport unit boss

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — LTL giant YRC Worldwide announced that its Yellow Transportation President Maynard Skarka is retiring and will succeeded by Mike Smid, president of YRC’s North American Transportation unit.

Smid was previously president of YRC’s Roadway unit.

The company, one of the largest transport providers in the world, has been particularly battered by a depressed U.S. economy, falling freight volumes, and skyrocketing fuel prices and costs.

Smid said YRC is stepping up efforts to “change our current growth trajectory,” Bloomberg reports.
