Yellowknifers asking feds to help build bridge
YELLOWKNIFE, (Jan. 20, 2004) — Residents, businesses and truckers in Yellowknife are looking for the federal government to come through with $3 million in funding needed to
Lock-in financing for a project to build a bridge across the Mackenzie River.
Project managers say they need the government cash to finalize an agreement and begin work on the $57 million project. The bridge would span the Mackenzie River at Fort Providence, N.W.T., 1,154 km northwest of Edmonton.
Businesses in the area are looking forward to the bridge, as use of ice roads across the river can be unpredictable during the spring and fall.
