ZF Meritor LLC has selected Nexiq Technologies to provide its eTechnician Web-based diagnostic tool for its FreedomLine and SureShift transmissions.

The wireless system offers remote, universal two-way messaging between the vehicle and ZF Meritor technicians and dealers. eTechnician delivers remote diagnostics and command/control applications, such as vehicle location; alert notifications; vehicle configuration identification; enhanced data storage; fuel economy information; and route management through mobile dispatch. It is available to fleets as an OEM-installed option or as an aftermarket-installed option.

“eTechnican is a perfect partner for our FreedomLine and SureShift transmissions,” said Rick Martello, president, ZF Meritor. “It shows how innovative technology can be brought to the commercial vehicle market and also provide bottom-line value to our customers. Further remote diagnostics for our transmissions allows us to meet our goals of ensuring that our customers’ trucks are always on the road and running at peak performance.”

Providing technical support to the service technicians responsible for responding to, diagnosing and repairing fault alerts is a critical business requirement for any OEM component supplier. It is the ultimate goal of ZF Meritor to keep commercial vehicles running at all times to increase fleets’ revenues.

ZF Meritor’s trained technicians at ArvinMeritor’s Customer Service department will use eTechnician to remotely diagnose, reset fault codes and change transmission parameters. Since diagnostic procedures can be performed while the vehicle is in operation, technicians may order parts and have them waiting at the next scheduled stop.

The FreedomLine is North America’s first two-pedal heavy-duty truck automated manual transmission. Drivers have a choice of fully automatic or manual modes, without having to clutch. The SureShift is an automated manual transmission shift system that provides control at the driver’s fingertips.

ZF Meritor is a joint venture of ZF Friedrichshafen and ArvinMeritor Inc.
